TOA - College and Career Readiness Lead Specialist

(This position requires work to be completed during June and July 2019, but will have some flexibility in work completion during the school year)

Purpose Statement

The College and Career Readiness Specialist is responsible for coordinating and contributing to  improvement efforts that increase postsecondary opportunities for students. The College and Career Readiness Specialist works under the direction of the Director of Assessment. This position will lead and coordinate high school College and Career Specialists and work collaboratively with district personnel, school administrators, counselors, teachers, CTE staff, and community partners. This role will include the collection of college and career data indicators to inform progress.

Essential Functions

  • Strengthen a post-secondary education and career readiness culture among middle and high school students and their families;
  • Leverages relationships with education, business, and community partners
  • Ensures all students, mentors and parent coaches are provided with high quality opportunities, experiences and activities focused on helping students succeed in post-secondary education, ranging from two- or four-year colleges, apprenticeships, or certification programs, and to be successful in the workplace. Working with school administrators, counselors, CTE leadership, and high school college and career specialists.
  • Creates and supports systems for data accuracy and conducts data analysis and support for middle and high school programs.
  • Compiles and creates presentations around college and career indicator data.
  • Develops and implements plans to increase student participation in college and career indicators (IB diploma, Industry Recognized in Credentials for CTE, SAT/ACT, AP exams, AzMERIT, dual enrollment, ASVAB, CLEP, Work-Based Learning Internships, ABOR Requirements).
  • Develops and implements plans to increase post-secondary enrollment and military service.
  • Develops and implements plans to increase and/or sustain high school graduation rates.  
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and deadlines.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies, and problems within student records.
  • Works with school-based personnel to systematize and support efficient and robust data collection procedures.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques.

KNOWLEDGE is required to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; age appropriate activities; stages of child development; and behavioral management strategies; assessment instruments and techniques; methods of instruction.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job- related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting tact and patience; working flexible hours; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; adhering to all district policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Experience: Three (3) years of successful teaching and/or counseling experience at middle or high school level.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
