Purpose Statement

The job of Nutrition Coordinator is done for the purpose/s of assisting the Director of Nutrition and Wellness with the development and implementation of the procedures for the food and nutrition programs and services; directing activities and personnel at central kitchens and respective networks to perform their functions in a safe and efficient manner; providing written support to convey information and complying with mandated health standards.


This job reports to Director of Nutrition and Wellness


Essential Functions

Implements menu plans for the purpose of meeting students' mandated daily nutritional requirements.  Provides guidance to school staff and parents regarding special dietary needs of students.


Manages central kitchens and respective networks as assigned for the purpose of providing efficient food services at the assigned sites in compliance with established nutritional and health requirements.


Monitors assigned sites for the purpose of ensuring adherence to state, federal, and county regulations.   Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.


Prepares a wide variety of documentation as necessary to the Director for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.


Responds to issues involving staff, conflicts in policies and regulations, and parental requests for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.


Supervises department functions including hiring/termination recommendations, planning / scheduling/coordinating activities, training, advising, consulting, etc. for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving department objectives within budget.


Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using a variety of software applications; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.


KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; standard business practices; program planning and development; concepts of grammar and punctuation; and concepts of quantity cooking and nutritional analysis.


ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups and individuals; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with detailed information/data.



Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling,  and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.


Experience:  Job related experience is required.

Education:   Bachelors degree in job related area.
