Prior PVUSD experience preferred
Provide comprehensive support and management to children with listening and/or hearing difficulties, birth through high school graduation. Responsibilities include management of early childhood and school hearing screening programs, assessment and management of auditory disorders, determination and management of hearing instrumentation devices, provision of auditory habilitation activities, management of hearing conservation programs, and counseling and training for school staff and parents. Educational audiologists are the professionals uniquely qualified to ensure that all students have adequate access to auditory information in the learning environment.

Major Areas of Responsibility and Duties Specific to this Job
Monitoring and Rehabilitation
Evaluate necessity of hearing aids, FM systems and other Assistive Listening Devices
Maintain assistive listening devices; troubleshoot assistive listening deices, BAHA/PONTOs, Cochlear Implant processors
Interpret other medical/educational assessments for parents and teachers, when applicable
Maintain records for IEP/IFSP, screenings, referrals, follow up, and planning services
Screen audiometry, including pure tone and immitance measurements
Conduct threshold audiometry, including air conduction, bone conduction, speech reception and word recognition, otoscopy, and immitance measurements
Conduct differential diagnosis of auditory processing disorder
Perform appropriate medical and educational follow up and referral procedures
Select and maintain audiological equipment
Management and Support
Consult and collaborate with teachers and other staff regarding the impact of hearing loss on education and social skills
Provide advocacy regarding hearing loss and its implications
Provide staff in-services regarding students assistive listening devices, FM systems and personal amplification
Provide information/in-services regarding hearing conservation and the effects of hearing loss due to noise
Consult with school health nurses/clerks regarding screening process
Keep abreast of local, state and federal regulations and policies for audiology services for children birth to age two.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying district, state and federal policies and regulations; operating standard office equipment; performing standard bookkeeping/accounting procedures; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and utilizing pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: accounting/bookkeeping principles.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working with detailed information.
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands; some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. And significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Preschool screenings and school-age audiological evaluations preferred.
Education: Doctoral Degree in Audiology or Masters Degree in Communication Disorders.
